This church could definitely be classified as a cult. I attended many years as a teenager with my family and it left many deep emotional and mental scars on me and my family. The people mean well, but are greatly misled. They teach an ominous, bizarre religion where God constantly communes with you through emotional and mental impressions, and that the slightest sin will send you to hell. They teach that in order to live a sinless life and thereby live everlasting, you must go through this experience where you lose all self worth and must endure great mental and emotional suffering, what they call 'dying out' and 'crucifying' yourself. They also teach strict and rigid rules, where if you transgress you will also lose your salvation and be sent to a devil's hell. These rules include, but are not limited to, women having to comply with a strict dress code, whereby they can only wear skirts that go below the knee, cannot cut their hair, are not allowed to wear make up or jewelry, nor show any significant amount of their skin. They also prohibit watching any TV, movies, or videos, and music that is not gospel, and attendance of fairs and concerts. I know many people who have been greatly misled by this toxic church, and I strongly advise against attending it, or letting your children attend.

  • I attended this church as a young man trying to establish my faith and knowledge of the Scriptures. Although I was young and many of the members were older, they welcomed me (and my peers) with such warmth and acceptance, that in a very short time, we became part of the fellowship. They welcomed us not just into fellowship in the church, but into leadership, and they took our input seriously into decisions about church matters.
I witnessed, both in public worship and private interactions, people who were more concerned about pleasing God and loving others than saving face or having their own way; and on more than one occasion, saw senior leaders of the church defer to their juniors when they could have insisted on their point of view.
Although no church with any group of people is going to be without disagreement, at Davenport I witnessed a unity that I have seldom seen -- people who sincerely loved God and each other, and lived like it.
If you're seeking to grow in Christ, I highly recommend this church to you.

  • If you want a church that teaches that you can live like the devil and make heaven your destination, this is NOT that kind of church. We believe that God can deliver from sin, and help us to live a holy life. This church family makes me and my family feel welcome every service, and the people truly do love God and each other. We would love for you to stop by for any of our service!
